Technology Integration Issues in a Special Education School: Point of View of Teachers

Technological advances make life easier for many people with disabilities. However, when technology is mentioned for the disabled, it usually covers the assistive technology such as hearing aids or walking mechanisms, whereas technology integration in educational circumstances can be more critical than assistive technologies in many cases. This study is carried out in a unique school for children with hearing impairment in Turkey. The school uses oral-communicative approach, thus makes use of hearing aids heavily however, educational technology is not granted for. It is therefore needed to carry out a research to see the opportunities for instructional technology integration. As for instructional technology use teachers are asked to fill out a survey on the technology integration for the school. The questions include use of technology for children in the school under the headings of technical, social, instructional issues that are considered as important in the technology integration.
